A vector is an organism that can transmit diseases from one organism to another.

In general, many do not realize that the deadliest animal on Earth is the mosquito. Annually, over one million people die from mosquito-borne diseases! While mosquitoes are the deadliest known vector, plenty of other animals are vectors and can cause serious damage to either humans, pets, livestock, and other organisms. The District strives to lessen the harmful impacts vectors can have on our communities through surveillance, treatment, and education. You can also be a part of the solution by learning easy and quick ways to keep your families safe and help prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases.
